Mindful Moves offers courses and presentations on blending mindfulness, social-emotional learning, and physical activity to help prepare children for learning and life. Mindful Moves uses Yoga Calm, a wellness curriculum developed by Jim and Lynea Gillen, that integrates breath work, yoga-based movement, social-emotional learning games and guided relaxation experiences to prepare children for optimal learning.
Jennifer cory, trainer
Jennifer has been an educator of elementary children for 25 years. Recognizing the many barriers to learning that exist among school children, Jennifer believed it was critical to provide her students with specific tools to help them reach optimal learning. She realized that in order for students to access their higher level cognitive functions, they first needed to fulfill their emotional, social, and physical needs. She began researching programs that emphasized these emotional, physical, and social spheres of learning and came upon Yoga Calm for Children.
After traveling to Portland, OR where she received intensive training in this wellness curriculum, she implemented the principles in her classroom the following year. Inspired by the positive results she observed in her students, she began presenting on the topic to share her experience with others. Since then, Jennifer earned a grant for her school, Building Healthy Communities, which brings nutrition and physical fitness into the schools. view news article
Researchers from Wayne State University conducted a study in her classroom to evaluate the impact Yoga Calm had on behavior and learning.
